Kindle Water Damage
Our client Brent recently took his Kindle on a fishing boat off the Florida Keys. The idea was to fish by day, read by night (Brent is a very quiet individual). Brent hooked a grouper and flipped it onboard – right onto his Kindle. The e-reader wasn't crushed, but was soaking wet. Brent experienced an extreme mix of emotions – elation over the catch mixed with horror over his sopping wet Kindle.
Taking it as a sign of divine providence, Brent quickly through the fish back and proceeded to towel off his Kindle. However, he was afraid to turn it on for fear of shorting it out. So Brent did the smart thing. He visited Kindle Repair .Net, the Internet's go-to resource for Kindle repair.
Our partner technician ascertained that the boat had a galley kitchen, and that rice was stocked. We instructed him to immerse the Kindle in uncooked rice and leave it there for three days. You see, rice is a wonderful desiccant and will draw out water from electronic devices without applying heat, which can be very risky. After three days, Brent carefully packaged the Kindle for shipping, applied our prepaid shipping label, and sent it off to us for testing and possible repair.

We opened up the Kindle and immediately replaced the battery. A wet battery will corrode and destroy the device, so it was a prudent precaution. We then tested the circuitry and found no shorts, so we held our collective breaths and powered it on. To our relief, it worked fine. We shipped it back to Brent, who was very pleased.
If your Kindle gets wet, contact Kindle Repair .Net, and we'll do our best to salvage your e-reader. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a new one, and that's no fish story :-)
